Statement on data breach incident

STATEMENT ON DATA BREACH INCIDENT

Aristocrat Technologies Pty Ltd (Aristocrat) recently became aware that venue management software it was developing was accessed without authorisation between June 2017 and February 2018 by malicious actors.  The module concerned was being tested using data from a venue in NSW (The Toronto District Workers’ Club) at the time of the unauthorised access.  Data collected from patrons of the Club was therefore located within the compromised development environment.

Aristocrat has no evidence at this stage that any patron data was in fact either accessed or extracted.

Nevertheless, upon becoming aware of the breach, Aristocrat notified the Club, NSW police and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, consistent with its obligations.  Aristocrat has also strived to work with the Club, and ensure its patrons are informed as quickly as possible and provided with appropriate information and support.

Mitchell Bowen, Aristocrat’s Managing Director of ANZ & International regions said “Aristocrat sincerely apologises for this incident, and in particular the regrettable impact on our customer, the Toronto Workers’ Club, and their patrons.

“Aristocrat takes the privacy of our customers and their patrons, and the integrity of our products, extremely seriously.  We continuously update and strengthen our systems and processes against unauthorised access, but clearly data security is an area of increasing challenge for all businesses today.

“We have launched a forensic review of our systems processes and protocols, and will ensure lessons learned are applied quickly and fully so that this can not happen again.

“Since becoming aware of this isolated issue, we have done everything we can to assist the Club in informing and supporting its patrons, and will continue to strive to support all parties and make this right” Mr Bowen concluded.

This data breach presents no risk to other Aristocrat systems or venues.  The affected system where the module was being developed was in a closed test environment isolated from other Aristocrat systems.  The module itself has not been deployed at any venue.

Toronto Workers’ Club patrons are advised to contact the Club directly on 02 4959 2011 for further information.
